Act I – Scene One - Street Scene
The curtain opens on an English village street scene. It’s a snowy December afternoon, and the town square is filled with School Children, Street Vendors and Gypsies. Masqued Players have come to town to entertain the holiday crowds. Among the revelers, we notice Mrs. Huntington and her daughter, Sophie, who is entranced by the Masqued Players and is overjoyed when one of them presents her with a mask. A street Urchin approaches to take a closer look, and in an act of kindness, Sophie decides to give her the treasured mask.
All the while, the mysterious Toymaker has been observing the scene, and notices Sophie’s generosity. When the Toymaker returns later with his sleigh full of toys, he rewards Sophie’s generosity by presenting her with an exquisite jester doll “Jinx” and a beautiful magical book. She is thrilled with her gifts as she walks home with her mother and little sister, exhilarated by the events of the day.
Before they retire for the evening, Sophie convinces her mother to let her stay outside in the garden a little longer to enjoy her beautiful book. It is here that Sophie’s magical journey begins.
Act I – Scene Two - Snow Kingdom
As Sophie drifts off to sleep, the Toymaker appears and leads her to a beautiful Snow Kingdom, where Snow Princesses, Fairy Friends and Polar Bears greet her. Later, Sophie takes a magical ride in a sleigh from the Snow Kingdom to experience the lovely surprises that await her.
Act II – The Toyshop
As a final treat, the Toymaker invites Sophie to meet Jinx the Jester and explore his Enchanted Toyshop, which is filled with magical toys from around the world. Dancing Dolls and Clowns, Elves and Bunnies, Soldiers, Russian Dancers, a Ballerina and a giant Teddy Bear come to life and create a night to remember.
